With a rapid growth of the North East economy for tourism and hospitality in recent years, Northumberland College launched a Land Based Rural Tourism Career College in September 2016.
Latest figures indicate an 18% increase in jobs in tourism within Northumberland over the next five years, growth in day visitors to 7.6m and in visitors from outside the North East to 83.3%.
Northumberland College has recently completed a major campus investment to upgrade facilities at their Ashington and Kirkely Hall campuses and created over 5000m².
Students benefit from industry standard facilities and personalised learning with a clear line of sight to work. They have access to a wide range of employer led projects and work experience and are involved in event planning within Kirkey Hall Zoological Gardens, Equine Facilities, Conferences and Exhibitions.
The students workdirectly with employers and businesses. In today’s economy there is a real need for rural businesses to diversify; the Career College will prepare them to work in this growing industry which includes a wide range if industry roles including the Northumberland National Park Authority.
